Pushing the Boundaries of Mooring Technology for Maritime Defense

Overview
EOM Offshore, through its subsidiary Safe-Moor, successfully deployed a maritime defense barrier in partnership with HALO Innovations Inc.
Originally engineered to increase capacity in environmentally sensitive mooring fields, Safe-Moor’s stretch-hose technology was adapted to create a resilient, flexible perimeter barrier designed for coastal defense and critical infrastructure protection.
The Challenge
Traditional maritime barriers often rely on rigid structures that can be damaged by vessel impacts, storm surge, or high wave energy. The project required a durable, adaptable barrier system capable of absorbing vessel impact forces, mitigating surge, and maintaining structural integrity in demanding marine conditions. Stakeholders needed a proven mooring technology that could be adapted for defense without compromising resilience or performance.
Our Solution
EOM Offshore modified and deployed its patented Safe-Moor stretch-hose mooring technology to form the foundation of the barrier system. The hoses provided compliance and energy absorption, allowing the barrier to flex under stress while maintaining secure station-keeping.

Key advantages of this solution included:
- Impact absorption: Stretch-hose design reduced structural damage from vessel impacts.
- Surge mitigation: Flexible connections absorbed energy from wave action and storm events.
- Proven durability: Engineered to withstand long-term deployment in harsh marine environments.
- Adaptability: Technology evolved from commercial and environmental mooring fields to defense applications.
Summary
This project highlights how EOM Offshore and Safe-Moor are expanding the utility of compliant mooring systems beyond traditional applications. By partnering with HALO Innovations Inc., EOM demonstrated that its stretch-hose mooring technology can provide innovative maritime defense solutions for coastal security, port protection, and critical infrastructure resilience.
